The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) was back in Singapore for the second time in promotional background last Saturday (June 17, 2017) with UFC Fight Night 111: Holm vs. Correia. It was an entertaining night of scraps which found six of 12 bouts end inside the distance, and with this activity today in our rear view, let us take a look at some potential matchups featuring some of the competitors in the evening…
Bethe Correia vs. Liz Carmouche
Correia endured a third-round knockout against Holly Holm this past weekend and will be looking to go back to the win column her next time out. I believe a matchup which makes sense for her next excursion within the Octagon will be one against fellow former UFC women’s bantamweight title challenger Liz Carmouche. It could be a rare”winner versus loser” matchup from the branch, but it is a pairing I think makes a lot of sense. I think this prospective women’s 135-pound competition are a fantastic match for the primary card to October’s UFC Fight Night in Brazil.
Colby Covington vs. Rafael dos Anjos
Covington and Dos Anjos were each successful in their main card charms at UFC Fight Night 111, with Covington carrying a unanimous-decision triumph over Dong Hyun Kim and dos Anjos earning a nod nod against former Strikeforce welterweight champion Tarec Saffiedine. It was a solid welterweight debut for dos Anjos, also I believe Covington are a good competitor for his next outing, as both of them are looking to break into the Top 15 at 170 pounds. This possible welterweight contest would be a wonderful fit for the card that is to the UFC 215 in Seattle of August.
“Stun Gun” Dong Hyun Kim vs. Alan Jouban
This welterweight showdown that is possible has of creating fireworks potential. It might also turn out to be a lackluster fight if Kim uses a grappling-heavy game program and finds success with it. I am not sure he will though, as I could watch Jouban maintaining the fight position. Jouban did show improved takedown defense in his last outing against Gunnar Nelson despite dropping via second-round guillotine-choke submission after being dropped using a punch to the brow. Kim is coming off a unanimous-decision loss to Covington, and such as Jouban, he will be looking to bounce back into the win column his next time out. I believe this fight would be a good match for the UFC Fight Night in Japan of September.
